A beautiful Sunday afternoon finds us in Indiana, visiting Rissa’s sister in good ol’ Anderson. We’ve been here since Thursday and my the time has really flown by! It is just so great seeing the lil’ kiddos again - one would swear they grow each time we see them (though it may be just weeks apart). The lil’ one has expanded her lexicon, and grown just geometrically cuter! She loves her uncle Tim and aunt Rissa and is the apple of our eyes.

Anderson, a town that saw its heyday in the early part of the twentieth century, is a quiet, sleepy town with friendly people and a very laid back feel to the place. The town gained fame towards the end of the nineteenth century when natural gas was found here. Industries moved in and the town bloomed. In 1912 however, the natural gas reserves were exhausted and the industries relocated elsewhere. (Information courtesy Anderson, IN public plaques)

We went trick or treating on Friday with our lil’ kids dressed as the Colts (the local Football team). By the time we were done, their buckets runneth over, full of candy. Lil Ella was just the cutest, unwilling to let go of the booty - although she’d squeal if she saw us digging into their candy as we sit this afternoon watching TV. Saturday saw us at the local Nazarene church at a charity event dinner - an all you can eat Chicken and Fish Fry. A packed place - quite a good turnout indeed. It was so entertaining to behold Sam and Jen greet nearly every parish member by name. It made me cognizant of the fact that a close parish can serve to be such a great support group. Good stuff - stuff I’ve basically just heard and/or read about.

This evening we are having an early Thanksgiving dinner - my first turkey Thanksgiving dinner with the family. We had a brief preview last night, and the verdict - delicious! There’s just so much to be thankful for this year - Thanksgiving with my new family. It is an honor to be a part of our close-knit group.

On the road to VT

On the road to VT, am blogging from a rest stop near Utica, NY. A perfect trip thus far, we just stopped for lunch at Sbarro (worst slices ever, stay away!!) and are in queue for lattes. Another 300 or so miles to go on this gorgeous day. Can’t wait till Vermont!

Digital Rebel XSi

October 20, 2008 | 2 Comments

After a seemingly endless wait over the weekend, the newest member of our family of cameras was finally delivered this afternoon by our friendly UPS guy. A brand new spanking Digital Rebel XSi, or 450D for the rest of the world. I immediately delved into the manual and found myself snapping pictures in rapid succession. Much the way it was when I played around with the Namesake’s 400D on that trip to Aachen with Z. Ah good times.

Back to the camera, mensch! Such a wealth of features, and a plethora of options - I am bewildered and yet so happy with our purchase. I guess the impetus behind this purchase was the great work Katie did at our wedding with her hardware. Muchly impressed we were! There’s much to be learned about the various settings and once I have that down pat, then comes the important part - setting up a perfect shot. To master the technical details won’t take long at all; the latter will  be the time-consuming part.

And here’s something I haven’t blogged about in nearly forever. My Mac vs. PC dilemmas! They reared their ugly head right after the wedding when I got a host of videos in MPEG2 format to convert to DVDs etc. Stuck on a Mac I had no viable options at all. I tried to edit them on my media center, but hey a man’s gotta watch them TV alongside. That just left my MBP or the other option to convert my Hackie back to Vista. I found a way around to do the latter, without sacrificing my OSX install. Simple solution? Purchase a second HDD and install Vista on it, and choose the correct HD at boot time. Works perfect, without the headaches involved with chain0 and other b0rk3d dualboot methods.

Well off to bed for now, but stay tuned - a few more posts coming up in the next few days in which I will detail my quests for RDC on a Mac and Movie DB software.

Wedding bells…

October 3, 2008 | 1 Comment

How does one express in mere words how perfect the wedding weekend was. The culmination of my hopes and dreams, to be one with the love of my life, to be joined in holy matrimony with the one I want to grow old with, to raise a family with, to go through each day of my life with her hand in mine, in the light of her smile, her embrace… I love you my beloved wife, my darling Rissa.

I am just the happiest person on this earth these days. Happy for I am at one with my love, whose ring I wear so proudly, honored and proud to be called her husband, to be by her side in whatever our lives may bring our ways.

It was indeed the most amazing weekend of my life. I really do wish to thank all who could be with us and celebrate with us these days… and to my friends who came all the way to be by our side. You guys, are just amazing… thank you so much for your presence, your support. You kept me calm while everything around me seemed so tense. I don’t say it enough, but you are the best!

On a side note, I have indeed been inundated with requests to put the wedding album online, and I will do that very soon indeed. I have changed the wedding invitation site from wedding.sodhis.net to invitation.sodhis.net. The former will now be home to the wedding pictures, as and when I get the same from Katie (who was just simply amazing and took the best pictures!)

Stay tuned chaps!

Post surgery, all is well

September 15, 2008 | 1 Comment

Thanks all for your good wishes, Tallytje and De Jong and everyone else. The surgery procedure went well, I was in and out within 30 minutes… reduced right now to a swollen ol man with a throbbing pain, and full of antibiotics and painkillers. Just a wee update m8s!
